About us
The Sit’n Split story began a few years back when a big red oak came down on our property in southern Indiana. My son and I cut up the limbs and smaller branches for firewood, then moved on to the trunk. Once we had it sawed into rounds, we realized just how heavy they were. We tried using a splitting maul, but that ol' red oak just laughed. Our log splitter doesn’t have a hydraulic lift, so I put the splitter into the vertical position and strapped on my kneepads. Not the first time I've done this. I got down on my knees, and pushed, shoved, wrestled, and wrangled each heavy round under the wedge and split them into pieces we could pick up. Anyone who’s done this knows—it’s just hard, uncomfortable work. Especially for those of us with a few years (decades) under our belts.
A couple of years later, another big oak fell. Now I’ve been called a “tinkerer,” and I suppose that’s true. This time, instead of crawling around on my knees, I went to my shop and attached a set of rollers and some small wheels to a quarter sheet of plywood (see picture at bottom). And eureka, I could move those heavy rounds into position with one hand, and without getting on my knees. That little experiment sparked an idea.
After a quick trip to town for some box steel and paint, I spent a day in the shop welding together the first Sit’n Split. A coat of orange paint later, we put it to the test—and it worked beautifully. I figured if it made my life easier—saving my back, knees, and shoulders—and helped break down big rounds without the usual strain, it was worth sharing. The patent application calls it an “assistive wood splitting device,” and that really does say it all. Our niece came up with the name after watching one of the early videos, and it stuck.
We’ve had a great team helping bring this little project to life. Many thanks to all of you. You took my idea and made it a reality. I want to give a shout out to fellow inventor and CEO at LogOx, Jon Roberts. His encouragement and thoughtful advice were both needed and appreciated.
Proudly made in southern Indiana, the Sit'n Split is more than a tool — it's a smarter, less strenuous way to split heavy rounds up for firewood. We stand behind every unit we ship, and we're confident it'll earn a permanent spot in your firewood cutting routine.
See ya out in the woods.
